Lode Henry Loving Retirement

Yesterday I caught up with the lovely lady who has rehomed Lode Henry. She brought him down to Jim’s kennels and he looked magnificent. She also showed me some pictures of him, he has a wonderful life!

He was a great dog for us but his nature always suggested he would make a great pet and he is living up to his potential, as he did on track!

Hard Life For Henry!

Greyhounds make great pets, they are couch potatoes and very loving. They need two twenty minute walks a day and are gentle. There are a lot of myths about greyhounds, but the truth is they are wonderful dogs! Henry has a wonderful home with lovely people and he loves them to bits, as they do him!

Lode Henry was beaten last night in a photo….

Henry was in Trap 1, he came late having hit trouble and how on earth they split them is beyond me! Despite the bad luck it is great to see Big H back on track!

Jack is having a trial at Sheffield today and then he will be racing again! We also have a new dog, Viking Harris who will run for Elaine Parker at Sheffield. This is a young dog who has gone through the grades at Yarmouth and I hope continues his progression in to open class.

The Viking Legend pups are doing well and I will keep you abreast of their progress. Viking Legend Two and Viking Baron.

It should be a great year with Jack as we build up to the Derby!

Jack is Back

Viking Jack is back! His winter break is over and he has been back in training and will have a trial on Friday night at Kinsley.

It was a superb year for Viking Jack in 2014 in which he reached THREE cat one finals and WON the Ladbrokes Monmore Gold Cup. He should be better for the break and of course he is not that bit older and should be at his peak!

Viking Jack 2014 Gold Cup Winner

I spoke to Jim this morning and of course our plans for 2015 revolve around the Derby in June, but we will kick off at Monmore in March and then have a crack at the Three Steps to Victory at Sheffield in March. This is a competition I love, because it marks the start of the spring / summer, Cheltenham, The Lincoln, the sun starts to shine, another summer is ahead!

I think this will be a big year for Jack, this is the first dog we have had that has a realistic chance in the Derby and it would be amazing to have a great Derby Campaign, but one step at a time, starting with his trial at Kinsley!

Jack is back, that is exciting! Lode Henry is also back and is having a trial on Tuesday!

Lode Henry at Sheffield Thursday

Viking Jack will be taking a break now, after a superb year, reaching three cat 1 finals, 2 semi finals and winning the Monmore Gold Cup!

I could not be prouder of the lad and remember this for 2015 folks, he is just coming to his peak, he is only 2 and a half years of age! The Derby is his target in 2015!

Lode Henry Entered at Romford

Free Greyhound Tips

Lode Henry is back in action on Tuesday at Romford, which will be shown live on Racing Post Tv on Friday Evening! Henry went close to the track record at Henlow over 428 and Jim Hayton thinks the 400m at Romford will suit him.

Sadly Henry got in trouble at the first bend at Sheffield last time out and was given a small break to make sure he had no problems. Jim is making the long trip to Romford and Henry must have a big chance given his early speed.

Viking Jack was eliminated from the Eclipse, as were other top performers like Droopys Norris and Newin Yolo but he could line up in front of the Sky Cameras on Tuesday evening.

This may be his last run before a winter break! I was asked if I was disappointed, and of course I would love to go through BUT if a year ago when Jack made his début you would say 11 months later Jack would reach THREE Category One Finals and win one of them then I would have been over the moon! I am and he is still a young dog, we have so much to look forward to, so NO I am not!

Owning a dog like Jack is more than I could ever have hoped for, lets hope he gets accepted at Notingham on Tuesday!

Lode Henry Wins at Henlow- In Style

Free Greyhound Tips

Lode Henry advised at 7/2 as a MAX BET at Henlow Won by almost 6 lengths…

Lode Henry almost broke the track record at Henlow on Sunday as is back to winning ways…

The time was 25.57 which is just one spot under the track record! Jim Hayton’s dogs are flying and Henry certainly is back to his best!

I sent an email to Racing Post TV and it says all I need to say…

I would just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Jim Hayton. Lode Henry got a bad injury at Wimbledon in May and Jim and the team have work hard to save his career, not only that he is back and just went a smidgen under the track record at henlow!!

I have had plenty of dogs with Jim over the years. What a wonderful trainer. He has won us a cat one this year with Viking Jack! he bred the best litter surely in training and I wish all three Lowgate dogs all the best in the Britih Bred semis tomorrow at Notts. VIKING JACK also runs there as we aim for the eclipse. !! Owning dogs with Jim is a pleasure and I am privileged to know him!

Jim is a BRILLIANT TRAINER and an even better bloke!!

We are at Nottingham on Monday with Viking Jack back in action!

Lode Henry Value at 10-1

Lode Henry qualified for tonight’s final at Nottingham, going down only half a length to Bromwich Tom. This was Henry’s first four bend run for several months. He should come on for it.

Henry was flying prior to the Derby then sustained an injury in the first round in May at Wimbledon. He has been brought back with a couple of sprints at Sheffield. Last week was a great run, Henry showed lots of early pace.

I rang Jim (Hayton, trainer) and asked what he thought. Jim thinks Henry can win and the 10-1 offered by Paddy Power is ridiculous price! Bet365 go 9-1 whilst Bromwich Tom is 9/4.

Lode Henry runs at 21-22 tonight

Lode Henry runs at 21-22 tonight

If Henry breaks he will lead and then it is all to play for. The advice is not to go mad but certainly Henry is worth a sporting bet at 10-1. He has good form at Nottingham and it would not be a huge shock for him to win. There are far worse 10-1 shots that is for sure!

Viking Jack runs on Tuesday at Sheffield in the semi-final of the Steel City Cup. The first three will qualify for the final Tuesday week which will be shown Live on Sky Sports.

Lode Henry Back Over Four Bends

Lode Henry runs over four bends at Nottingham on Monday. He is in a dual distance trophy competition. He must finish in the first two to qualify for next week’s final.

Lode Henry at Sheffield

Lode Henry at Sheffield

He had a couple of sprints at Sheffield, which should have brought him on. They were red hot sprints, now he is pitched in at a more reasonable level. He has really good form at Nottingham, having beat Redbrick Stuart there over 480m.

He was on the top of his game then, he may not quite be back to that standard, we thought 6 weeks or so to get him back, and we are well on target for that.  The race is live on SIS on Monday…

20.36 Nottingham TRAP 2 LODE HENRY

Trap 2 is perfectly ok. The greyhound in the red has pace. Henry will have to get a flyer, we are looking for a good run and get Henry back on track. Anything he does for the next 3 or 4 runs is a bonus!

Lode Henry Runs at Nottingham On Monday

Lode Henry is entered to run in a small competition at Nottingham on Monday, the dual distance trophy. He will run over 450m on Monday and then if he qualifies, the final is over 500m the following Monday.

Lode Henry runs Monday

Lode Henry runs Monday

The last mini competition Henry ran in he dead heated with Blackstone Marco at Monmore. He then got injured in the Derby, but is back now, right as rain. He has had a couple of sprints at Sheffield, running OK, so it is time to step up to four bends!

Viking Jack has been entered in the Steel City Cup. We find out Friday who he will run against in the heats.

Lode Henry On The Sheffield Card

Viking Jack is having a week off. Jim wants him fresh for the Steel City Cup with starts at Sheffield a week on Tuesday. This is what happened before the Monmore Gold Cup, so why change a winning formula?

Lode Henry was back racing in a sprint last week and ran third behind United Leeds. Trap 4 was his undoing Jim thinks and back over the minimum trip this week he has drawn trap 1. United Leeds re-opposes as does Bowtime Fella who came back to form last week to win. This is a really good sprint and Big H will be a big price. He is capable of winning, we would like to see a good run, prior to entering him in the Steel City Cup.

Jim’s dogs are flying at the minute, the Steel City Cup could be interesting!
