Saturday Betting Times Special

BT

SATURDAY 20th SEPTEMBER

Saturday is here again, this looks like a tricky one for punters. We have put together your essential Saturday guide for X22 members…

BET OF THE DAY…

Robert Smart

14.20 Newbury MAX BET No 7 STRATHBURN 15/8

Best Bet of the day was LIMATO in the MILL REEF STAKES. However now as a non runner the bet is STRATHBURN. We are developing something very special in house. This is a ratings system, called the FINE FORM LEGACY SYSTEM and the races is rated as….

2.20 Newbury
LIMATO NR
STRATH BURN 12
TOOCOOLFORSCHOOL 10

The Fine Form Legacy system is something very special indeed and is in the final stages of development. We are staggered by what this is achieving. The final phase is optimising how to use the output data. The ratings calculate form, speed, relative form, trainer stats, jockey stats and course and distance related form. This is the result of MANY YEARS of work. Fine Form is of course a very long established brand, as a student of the Fine Form this has been developed using their basic principals but radically enhanced, hence the FINE FORM LEGACY.

Robert Smart

Robert Smart gave UP FOR AN OSCAR that won at 3/1 Friday. He has a MAX BET at Newbury in addition to Limato which is….

15.30 Newbury MAX BET No 11 MECCAS ANGEL

Nunthorpe winner, and looks to be in great form. Robert is very confident of double today. The Fine Form Ratings also back up the selection…

3.30 Newbury Points
MECCAS ANGEL 11
JUSTINEO 9
AJJAADD 7

SATURDAY 20 AUGUST BIG WEEKEND

Welcome To The Betting Times…

Carl_Harris (CAPS and BORDER) This is the first instalment of the X22 BETTING TIMES, which will, hopefully, keep you entertained and  involved in X22.

You will be reading pieces written by our team of tipsters, which will vary widely from informative technical articles to the humorous and ups and downs of pro punters!

We have a varied and eclectic bunch, to say the least and it will be interesting what gets posted on here. Happily betting is for over 18s as I suspect is a lot of what gets posted on here.

My first Betting Times post follows one of the best night of my punting life when my dog VIKING JACK won the Monmore Gold Cup landing a 20-1 punt. To be fair I don’t think there is anyone left who has not heard all about it, at least once. But here it is, once again!

Viking Jack_GoldCupPres

Me with Jim, Mick, Jack and a couple of pretty Girls at Monmore!

Viking Jack is still young and came here on the back of a THIRD place finish in the Cat 1 William Hill Grand Prix at Sunderland over 6 bends. He won over 6 bends at Monmore and then impressed over the 480 trip. Jim decided to go for Gold, literally and entered him in the Gold Cup. This is a three round competition. In the race before the Gold Cup he beat a dog called Roxholme Ted by a long way, yet Ted was 6/1 and Jack was 20/1. It was a ridiculous price. Everyone was advised and so the gamble was a foot! 20-1 – we were on LARGE!

Jack was drawn in trap 6 in the heats and was up against another dog he had beaten, Banjo. Jack missed the break but flew down the back and was set to take the lead at the third bend when Banjo closed the door and Jack lost his footing, he recovered well and went down only a short head. but was safely through. His odds were cut to 6-1. STILL TO BIG! More bets were struck at 6-1.

In the semi he missed the kick again and had a troubled passage again but got up to win and as the only wide seed left he was guaranteed trap 6, with the rest of the field made up of five railers! The favourite was the Liz and Rab McNair trained Airfield Paudie, who was mightily impressive but badly drawn in three. Jack was in the Gold Cup Final. Absolutely sensational just to be there, to win at Category 1 race is a dream and not many people in the sport get to fulfil that dream, it is a privilege just to be in the race but the difference between winning and losing was many thousand pounds and so many people I know, many who don’t usually bet, were on at 20-1. I wanted Jack to win, not just for me but for everyone on at 20-1. Of course I wanted to win for myself but this meant so much to Jim, the trainer, his wife, Mick who helps out with the dogs, they put so much time and love in to the dogs and they had a big shot at a top race on Sky.

The gamble continued throughout the day, at one stage Ladbrokes went 11-10. I was told this was one of the biggest gambles ever seen on a dog, certainly in recent years. This is what happened….

Bang out and away. Paudie is a really good dog and wouldn’t let Jack get away, but Jack is best at the end of the race, he kicked in the turbo and won by almost 7 lengths. To win a Cat 1 by 7 lengths is top quality and it was gamble landed in style. It was all a daze.

One thing about greyhound people, the beaten finalists were the first to congratulate us and shake hands, thoroughly sporting and descent people. I always try and do the same, the greyhound world is different class, so many top class people. My phone was vibrating so much I think I was shaking as Julie Collier interviewed me on Sky.

I AM COOL….ITS OFFICIAL!

In the Racing Post Jim Cremin said I was “Coolness Personified” which is a source of great annoyance to my daughter who can not agree that her Dad is anyway close to cool. However now it is in the paper it is official! It was a big win, yes we landed plenty of bets, yes we won £10k in prize money, but above all that we had achieved a cat 1 winner. Dreams do come true! They did at Monmore on Thursday 21 August! Viking Jack won the Ladbrokes Gold Cup. Trained by Jim, it doesn’t get any better than that!

I have thanked Jim and his team a million times, but will say it again, This is down to Jim, he proved he is as good, if not better than anyone in the business. He is a top trainer and a top bloke, I was so pleased for Jim, the only time I choked up was when Matt Chapman got me after the race, literally after they went past the post, and I said that is down to Jim. It is, all down to Jim and his team. Not me! What credit can I take?

I took the cash from the bookies and advised hundreds of people to be on at 20-1. But Jack had to win, and he was trained to the minute by Jim. Great dogs need great trainers! in Viking Jack and Jim Hayton we have BOTH!

THE BREEDER WAS ON THE PHONE BEFORE JACK WAS BACK IN THE KENNEL….

When I bought Jack, Ian Greaves told me that this was a top class pup and would win top przies. I have had dogs from Ian before, Enzo was a superb pup but ever the optimist I said to Ian put your money where your mouth is and without hesitation the deal was done.

Ian was in line for half the prize money and he was rightly over the moon! Ian breeds some of the top dogs in the country and is a great bloke. Good dogs need to be well reared. Jack certainly was. He is a stunning dog and a fast one but the rearing and then the training have to be right!  It was an hour or so later that It dawned on me, Viking Jack has won the Monmore gold Cup!

What a feeling! I watch the video over and over and no doubt will watch it again when I review this post! Whatever happens now in life we won that and though I hope we win other competitions, make no mistake, to win one is more than I ever hoped. In Jack though we have a dog, a young dog, who could win plenty more!

The commentary is superb!  Surely its how far! WOOSH….I love watching it, my family think I have lost the plot!

We now go for the Steel City Cup at Sheffield, but the ultimate aim is next year’s Derby, now that is a dream to win, but I will never have a better chance of winning that than I have with Jack!

Whatever happens next, Viking Jack is a category 1 winning greyhound!

Oi oi !
