Monday Horseracing- All Weather Only!

Ayr is OFF! So once again no turf racing in the UK, leaving only Kempton and Wolverhampton. It is not thrilling!

I had a couple of emails in asking me to explain my comments about the weather ‘holding horses up at home’. It is quite simple. If the trainer’s gallops are flooded are unusable forcing horses to miss work and exercise then they will obviously lack a bit of fitness and that will affect the results. If a horse performs under its expected level it is going to get beat in races decided by fine margins.

I have advised my clients NOT to bet at the moment and if they do to ABSOLUTE MINIMUM STAKES.

These are for people who want a leisurely flutter. I can not advise significant stakes today, probably your best bet is NO BET.

Kempton, I can not even give you any tentative pointers. Best left! That leaves only Wolverhampton where there are two horses I would point out to you…

12.45 Wolverhampton BELIEVE IT- 7/4

Richard Hughes is shaping up as a decent handler. This is probably the best bet on the card and is already being backed. 7/4 is widely available at the time of writing, but looks sure to go. A winner over course and distance last time, up three pounds for that and the booking of a seven pound claimer means a net drop in weight. I can’t tell you whether the pilot is value for his claim but I would suggest a man like Hughsie would not have booked him otherwise. The form says get on. Its a modest level contest.

13.50 Wolverhampton BY RIGHTS- 4/1

This race has a hot favourite- Effusive, who is one worthy of Laying! 2 wins from 13 this is a regressive horse and must be one of the most disappointing trained by William Haggas. Deemed of sufficient ability to run at Royal Ascot in 2014 and back to back Group 3 contests. Now running here off 75, having won a poor race off 69, this is a horse worth taking on. Certainly as short as 10/11 this is NOT for me. Instead I am looking for value and BY RIGHTS fit the bill. 4/1 is a fair price. Second here the last twice off the same mark, drawn 3, I would much rather be on this and against the FAV.

The good news is though we should have a good night of dogs on Monday with Open races at Nottingham!
